Albania’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has confirmed that the country has been affected by the “African Swine Fever.”
According to RTSh, the ministry reported that outbreaks were detected on the island of Lezhë, where 15 pigs died due to the infection. Following confirmation, the carcasses were buried.
The ministry further explained that a farm located within a 10 km surveillance zone from the outbreak in the Rrenci Mountain has been closely monitored. The farm underwent three inspections during the quarantine period on November 27, December 2, and December 9, with no health issues detected among the animals.
In response, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, along with law enforcement agencies, is actively managing the situation and has declared readiness to swiftly contain the disease and prevent its spread.
The ministry has also ordered a ban on the sale and trade of live pigs in open markets and livestock trading areas within the Lezhë Municipality.
