A Japanese liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz, according to one of the vessel’s owners.

The tanker, SOHAR LNG, is co-owned by Mitsui OSK Lines, which confirmed the vessel’s safety. The co-owner declined to disclose to Reuters when exactly the tanker crossed the strait or whether any negotiations were required.

Japanese newspaper Asahi reported that this is the first Japanese ship to transit the Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of the conflict with Iran.

Earlier this Friday, a French ship also crossed the strait. The container ship CMA CGM, flying a French flag, passed through Hormuz from the Gulf, showing navigation signals indicating its French ownership, according to MarineTraffic data.

Additionally, the ship Kribi, flying the Maltese flag, transited the Strait of Hormuz from west to east yesterday afternoon and is currently near Muscat.
