Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that his country’s response to any attack would be harsh, seemingly reacting to a warning by U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested he could authorize new strikes against Iran if Tehran rebuilds its nuclear or ballistic missile programs.

“The response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to any brutal aggression will be severe and deterrent,” Pezeshkian wrote on the social media platform X, without providing further details, reported The Times of Israel.

Trump made his remarks during extensive talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

“I am now hearing that Iran is trying to rebuild again, and if that is the case, we will be forced to knock them down. We will knock them down badly—but I hope that won’t happen,” the U.S. president warned.

The two leaders discussed the possibility of renewed military action against Tehran, six months after the 12-day aerial conflict between Israel and Iran in June, which erupted following a surprise Israeli strike on Iranian strategic targets.

The United States carried out a series of strikes on key Iranian nuclear facilities and subsequently helped broker a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

On Monday, Trump hinted that he could order another U.S. strike against Iran.

“If this is confirmed, they know the consequences—and those consequences will be very powerful, possibly more powerful than last time,” the American president cautioned.

Iran’s president stated on Saturday that tensions between the two sides have already escalated. “We are in a full-scale conflict with the United States, Israel, and Europe. They do not want our country to remain stable,” he said.
