Agim Veliu, from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), addressed the discussions regarding his potential inclusion on the party’s candidate list for the parliamentary elections on December 28. Veliu thanked those who voiced support for his contributions to LDK, as well as for “restoring justice and meritocracy within” the party.
He emphasized that, both in this and previous elections, there had been expectations for him to be part of the list, and that he has continued to serve LDK “regardless of the unfair and harmful decisions at that time.”
“I want to make it clear that inclusion on the list is not a favor or personal privilege. For me and for anyone who has made a long-term contribution to LDK, it is solely a responsibility and a continuation of dedicated work; it is respect for our history and for the citizens who have trusted us for many years,” he stated.
Veliu also underlined that those who founded LDK should not be excluded, and that this principle should guide decisions when opening opportunities for others who have not previously been part of the party.

Dear steadfast members, supporters, and sympathizers,
In recent days, I have observed a broad debate in the media, among the membership, and many LDK activists regarding representation on the candidate list for the December 28 elections.
I want to thank all those who sincerely and wholeheartedly raised their voice for my contributions and for restoring justice and meritocracy within the Democratic League of Kosovo.
It is true that even in previous elections, there was an expectation for me to be part of the list. But, regardless of the unfair and harmful decisions of that time, I have remained where I have always been – in service of LDK, of our citizens, and of the values we have cultivated for more than three decades.
I want to make it clear that inclusion on the list is not a favor or personal privilege. For me, and for anyone who has made a long-term contribution to LDK, it is solely a responsibility and a continuation of dedicated work. It is respect for our history and for the citizens who have trusted us for many years.
LDK is our shared home. It was built with effort, sacrifice, and loyalty by people who were there when times were hardest and who continue to be there today.
Therefore, it is essential that the door is not opened to those who have never been part of LDK if doing so would exclude those who founded, protected, and sustained the party for more than 30 years.
Respect for the grassroots, the founders, and long-term contributors is not only a principle; it is a moral and institutional obligation toward LDK, the membership, and the citizens who trust us.
Despite the debates of recent days, I remain committed to LDK’s values, ready to contribute, and loyal to every member who has loved and continues to love the party as their home.
Thank you for your recognition, support, and continued trust!
May God bless LDK!
May God bless Rugova!
May God bless Kosovo!
