Former mayor of Prishtina, Shpend Ahmeti, has stated that he sees no readiness from the opposition to form a government, nor any serious coalition possibilities between Vetëvendosje (VV) and other parties. In his view, early elections are the only logical outcome of the current political deadlock.
“I haven’t seen any willingness from the opposition to form the government on their own, nor to form a broad-based government, or even a VV-LDK coalition.
So, it would be honest for MPs and political parties to say they’re not ready to form a government and that we should go to elections,” Ahmeti told Klan Kosova.
He ruled out all other governing options, including a VV coalition with PDK, LDK, or AAK-Nisma, calling them unrealistic.
Ahmeti also noted that VV is within its rights to push for elections, even suggesting that October 12—the date of upcoming local elections—could be a good time to hold national ones too.
However, he expressed concern about low voter turnout:
“In the next elections, I believe participation will be much lower — unless a new political party emerges, which I hope it does.”
