AIP Calls on CEC and Political Parties to Ensure Data Protection During Elections

The Agency for Information and Privacy (AIP) has urged the Central Election Commission (CEC) and political parties to ensure the protection of personal data during the ongoing election process, reports Gazeta Online Reporteri.net.

AIP has called on the CEC to ensure that the installation of security cameras and voting booths fully complies with Law No. 06/L-82 on the Protection of Personal Data, avoiding any infringement on citizens’ privacy or the confidentiality of votes.

In its statement, AIP also reiterated its request to political parties to protect citizens’ personal data in communications through email, SMS, and phone calls, without prior consent.

The Agency emphasized that any violation of personal data protection principles will be addressed in accordance with Law No. 06/L-82 on the Protection of Personal Data and the legal competencies of the Agency.
