The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has revised downward its 2025 global air traffic and profit forecasts, citing ongoing global economic uncertainties as a key driver, Rks News reports.
At its annual meeting in New Delhi, IATA announced that total air travel for this year is now expected to fall below five billion trips, compared to the earlier projection of 5.22 billion.
“The first half of the year has brought significant uncertainty to global markets,”
said IATA Director General Willie Walsh, while still emphasizing the resilience of the airline industry.
Airline industry profits are now forecast to reach $36 billion a drop of $600 million from previous estimates. Likewise, commercial aviation revenues are projected at $979 billion, missing the symbolic $1 trillion mark previously anticipated.
Walsh urged governments to avoid raising aviation-related fees, warning that such measures could further strain the sector amid economic challenges and rising trade tensions.
