Al Jazeera Balkans has announced it’s ceasing operations after 14 years of broadcasting. The network, established in 2011 in Sarajevo as part of the Doha-based Al Jazeera Media Network, covered both global and regional events across the Balkans, with offices in Belgrade, Zagreb, Podgorica, Skopje, Ljubljana, and Pristina.
In a statement, the collective of Al Jazeera Balkans expressed pride in their work, serving viewers and readers for 4,970 days. They stated their commitment was always to be “the voice of those whose voice is not heard, an island of truth, culture of dialogue, and ethical journalism.”
The network concluded its announcement by thanking its audience: “None of this would have been possible without your trust and support. Thank you for being with us.”
