At least three law enforcement officers have died following a powerful explosion at a police training center in Los Angeles. The blast, which occurred just before 7:30 AM local time at the facility on Eastern Avenue, also destroyed the training center.
The center houses the special sheriff’s office and the fire suppression team, including the bomb squad. According to sources from the Los Angeles Times, the explosion happened while a bomb disposal team was moving explosives. The area was immediately evacuated, and law enforcement agencies established a large perimeter to secure the scene.
Authorities are investigating, but the exact cause of the explosion has not yet been determined. Secretary Pam Bondi described the event as a “horrific incident,” stating that federal agents are on site gathering further information.
