Over the past 24 hours, 20 wildfires have been reported across Albania, with three still active and one under monitoring, according to the Ministry of Defense.
The fires have been recorded in the municipalities of Dibër, Bulqizë, Mallakastër, Fier, Kavajë, Vorë, Vau i Dejës, Shkodër, Malësi e Madhe, Has, Krujë, Vlorë, Selenicë, Gjirokastër, and Përmet.
Active Fires:
- Dibër County: Efforts are ongoing to extinguish the fire in “Mali i Peladhisë”, Zerqan administrative unit, Bulqizë municipality.
- Shkodër County: A wildfire remains active in “Qafa e Lacit”, Vau-Dejës municipality, affecting around 5 hectares of oak and shrub vegetation.
- Gjirokastër County: A fire broke out at the municipal waste collection site in Grohot. Firefighting teams are on-site with a fire engine.
Under Monitoring:
- Dibër County: In “Liqeni i Luleve”, part of Lurë National Park, fire activity is currently minimal with light smoke. Four staff from the National Agency for Protected Areas (AdZM) and five municipal workers are monitoring the site.
Damage and Response:
The wildfires have so far scorched over 150 hectares of vegetation and more than 1,000 olive trees. Additionally, a fire was reported in a residential house in the “15 Tetori” neighborhood in Fier and another incident occurred on a bus along the Kardhiq–Delvinë road, near the Skërfica tunnel in Gjirokastër municipality. Both incidents resulted in material damage, according to Top Channel.
A total of 29 fire trucks and 346 operational personnel were involved in firefighting efforts, alongside 130 troops from the Armed Forces.
Weather & Risk Forecast:
According to the Institute of Geosciences, light rain is expected today in Kukës and Elbasan, and localized showers in Shkodër, Dibër, Tiranë, Berat, Korçë, and Gjirokastër. However, the wildfire risk remains high in Lezhë, Fier, Berat, and Gjirokastër, while moderate risk is expected in all other regions.
