Albania 2030: Which EU Countries Support Membership and Which Remain Skeptical

A Eurobarometer survey on EU enlargement towards the Western Balkans has revealed a divided opinion regarding Albania’s accession to the European Union by 2030. According to the results, 45% of EU citizens are in favor, while 44% are against.

📊 Support above 50% for Albania’s EU membership was registered in 12 EU member states, while in 15 countries support remained below 50%.

The strongest backing came from:

  • Sweden (74%)
  • Denmark (60%)
  • The Netherlands (59%)
  • Croatia (58%)
  • Malta (57%)
  • Spain (55%)
  • Finland (53%)
  • Portugal (53%)
  • Romania (51%)

Meanwhile, skepticism remains high in several member states:

  • Czech Republic: 62% against, only 29% in favor
  • Austria: 64% against, 30% in favor
  • Germany: only 35% in favor
  • France: only 36% in favor
  • Greece: just 39% in favor
  • Italy: 48% in favor

In Hungary (49% vs. 44%) and Poland (47% vs. 43%), opinion is almost evenly split.

The survey, conducted between February and March 2025 with the participation of 26,300 citizens, highlights the geopolitical divide within the EU on future enlargement and Albania’s prospects for joining by 2030.
