Albania Ablaze: 21 Active Wildfires, Some Suspected to Be Intentional

Albania is currently grappling with a concerning wave of wildfires, with 21 active hotspots recorded in the past 24 hours, RKS News reports.

Firefighters and the Armed Forces are engaged in intensive operations to extinguish the flames, particularly in mountainous areas where access and intervention are more challenging.

Blazes have been reported across 16 municipalities, with several fires suspected to have been intentionally set. In Bulqiza, a low-intensity fire was quickly brought under control by over 20 firefighters.

In Lurë National Park, parts of the protected forest were scorched, while in Tirana County, efforts continued to contain a fire in the oak-covered region of Zambish, Rrogozhinë.

Fires were also reported in Librazhd and Udenisht (Pogradec municipality). Overall, 38 fire engines and 459 personnel were mobilized, with 90 troops and 3 helicopters from the Armed Forces assisting in the firefighting operations.

Authorities warn that the situation remains critical and are urging citizens to exercise caution and cooperate in preventing the outbreak of new fires.
