Albania continues to face severe wildfires that, for the past 24 hours, have posed a serious threat to homes, livestock, agriculture, and human lives.
The most critical areas remain Poliçan, Delvina, and Gramsh, where firefighting efforts are ongoing by land and air. In Poliçan, flames have approached the village of Plashnik, prompting the immediate evacuation of residents.
Local authorities report that they are doing everything possible to manage the situation. Adriatik Zotka, mayor of Poliçan, stated:
“We have a very, very critical situation. We are awaiting air support any moment and are working to get residents out of their homes.”
In Delvina, after a difficult night on Tuesday when fires reached the outskirts, flames have returned, destroying a house, a barn, and olive plantations. Evacuations have been ordered, and access to the area is restricted.
Firefighting efforts involve 300 personnel, 24 fire trucks, and two Air Force helicopters for aerial intervention. Residents are assessing the damage.
The fire on Mount Sopoti threatens the territory of Gjirokastër municipality, while in Gramsh, seven villages report calmer conditions. However, an active fire in Nartë, Skënderbegas Administrative Unit, is spreading rapidly due to strong winds, prompting evacuations.
So far, around 30 families have been evacuated, with at least 36 homes destroyed. Significant losses have been reported in livestock and crops, with residents expressing deep distress over the destruction.
In the north, the village of Xath, Fushë Arrëz, is also facing serious wildfire threats, with ongoing containment efforts. Over the past 24 hours, 64 fire outbreaks have been identified, 24 of which remain active.
