Albanian State Police have announced the arrest of five individuals as part of an international drug trafficking operation initiated in Italy. The criminal group reportedly trafficked cocaine from South America using modified vehicles and distributed it in Italy and Central European countries.
Details of the Operation
The large-scale operation, codenamed “ICARO.AL,” has so far led to the arrest of 12 individuals, with investigations ongoing for an additional eight suspects.
In Albania, the following individuals were detained:
- Sh. P., 44, resident of Elbasan
- E. D., 40, resident of Elbasan
- E. Zh., 41, resident of Shkodër
- G. B., 28, resident of Tirana
Additionally, based on intelligence from Albanian police and coordination with Spanish counterparts, a wanted Albanian national, G. P. alias A. P., 48, was arrested in Spain.
One suspect, M. M., 28, has been declared wanted in Albania. Authorities indicate he is also sought for other criminal offenses.
Modus Operandi
According to Italian authorities, the criminal group smuggled cocaine from South America to Italy and Central Europe by concealing the drugs in modified vehicles. The Brescia Court has charged the suspects with organizing the trafficking and distribution of the narcotics.
