On January 18, Albania officially inaugurated its embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, marking a significant milestone in the country’s diplomatic relations. Albanian Foreign Minister Igli Hasani stated that the embassy would serve not only as a bridge for collaboration between the two nations but also as a symbol of their shared commitment to a peaceful future and a “united, strong, and prosperous” Europe, reports RFE.

The embassy, which opened in late 2024, had previously sustained material damage due to Russian missile attacks a few weeks ago. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha was also present at the inauguration ceremony.

During his first visit to Kyiv, Hasani met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The two leaders signed a memorandum of cooperation focused on European integration, further cementing the relationship between the two countries. Additionally, they exchanged ratification documents for the Friendship and Cooperation Agreement between Albania and Ukraine.

“These steps represent significant progress in strengthening the ties between our two countries and reaffirm our commitment to a long-term partnership. Albania stands with Ukraine on its path toward peace, security, and a European future,” stated Hasani.

As a NATO member, Albania has condemned Russia’s aggression and imposed sanctions against the country due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Furthermore, Albania has provided various forms of aid, including hosting Ukrainian citizens.

Both Albania and Ukraine are in the process of European Union integration, with Albania already having opened the first negotiation chapters.
