President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, has announced that the general parliamentary elections in Albania will be held on May 11, 2025. This date was communicated by the Presidency, which stated that it was chosen to provide the Central Election Commission with sufficient time for better organization of the election process.

Reactions from Political Parties

The Socialist Party, which is in power, had proposed May 11 as the date for the elections, and this was approved by the Presidency. However, Opposition Parties, including the Democratic Party, have expressed their opposition to this date. They argue that holding the elections just two days after the planned European Political Community Summit could give the government an unfair advantage by potentially influencing the political landscape.

The Presidency has clarified that the European Political Community Summit will take place after the elections, ensuring there is no possible impact on the electoral process.
