Albania is holding a state funeral today in honor of former Prime Minister Fatos Nano, who passed away on October 31 in Tirana at the age of 72.
The ceremony is being held at the Palace of Congresses, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the public paying their respects. At 11:15 a.m., speeches are expected from a member of Nano’s family and Prime Minister Edi Rama, his successor as leader of the Socialist Party.
Prominent figures from Kosovo have also been invited to attend the ceremony, reflecting Nano’s regional influence and legacy in Albanian political life.
Following the state ceremony, Nano’s body will be laid to rest at the Sharra cemetery with full honors. The religious service will be conducted privately by his family.
In his memory, national flags will be flown at half-mast, and at 12:00 noon, the entire country will observe a minute of silence.
