The Director-General of the Albanian State Police, Ilir Proda, has declared that cooperation with the Kosovo Police has become a “model of success in the region.” This statement comes after a recent operation in Kukës, in collaboration with Kosovo and Tirana Police, led to the arrest of two Kosovo citizens and the seizure of a significant quantity of firearms being trafficked from Kosovo to Albania.
Successful Joint Operation Against Firearms Trafficking
The State Police released a statement expressing gratitude and appreciation for the Kukës Police structures, patrol officers, “Shqiponjat” (Eagles) units, and investigative specialists who successfully thwarted this trafficking attempt. The operation resulted in the seizure of 8 pistols and the arrest of the two individuals from Kosovo.
Proda emphasized that this latest operation, along with consecutive operations carried out by Tirana Police in cooperation with Kosovo Police, are clear evidence of the State Police’s presence, vigilance, and determination to ensure security across the country.
Commitment to Public Safety and Citizen Cooperation
Proda highlighted that firearms are a primary source of criminal incidents, crimes against life and property, and a constant risk to public order. “Every illegal weapon, at the border or within our territory, is a life saved,” he stated, noting that numerous cases of illegal gun possession recently thwarted nationwide demonstrate the State Police’s unwavering commitment. “Every dismantled network is a crime prevented.”
The Albanian State Police is maximally engaged in preventive, investigative, and operational actions, both domestically and abroad, in cooperation with its partners to combat crime in general and organized crime in particular.
Proda expressed confidence that full success in this daily battle can only be achieved through close cooperation with citizens, civil society, youth, and the media.
“While we work for your safety, I invite you to stand by the Police, cooperate, and be part of this new spirit of trust and mutual respect,” he urged. “Together, we will further strengthen security, further improving the image of Albania, which is and remains a safe and welcoming country for all visitors and tourists from around the world who choose to come and discover our beauties.”
He concluded with a clear message: “Security is non-negotiable! Police and citizens, an unstoppable force.”
