President Begaj and Defense Minister Vengu reaffirm Albania’s commitment to the alliance
On the 16th anniversary of Albania’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), President Bajram Begaj and Defense Minister Pirro Vengu emphasized that despite challenges, Albania remains dedicated to the alliance, which they consider the most powerful military organization in the world.
President Begaj, in a statement on platform X, highlighted Albania’s active contributions to NATO missions and operations over the years.
“Today, the most successful collective defense alliance. Throughout these years, Albania has proven to be a worthy member with active contributions to NATO missions and operations. We remain committed to the Euro-Atlantic alliance, ensuring a strong, united, and cohesive NATO,” Begaj stated.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Pirro Vengu described Albania’s 16-year NATO journey as one filled with challenges, dedication, and significant achievements.
“Sixteen years ago, Albania joined the most powerful military alliance in the world! A journey filled with challenges, dedication, and great accomplishments. Today, our Armed Forces contribute to security and stability missions alongside our allies, demonstrating Albania’s commitment to collective defense and lasting peace. Proud of our role in the Alliance!” Vengu said, as reported by KosovaPress.
Albania became a full NATO member on April 1, 2009, after all allied countries ratified its Accession Protocol and the instrument of accession was officially deposited with the U.S. Department of State, the legal custodian of the Washington Treaty.
