The British newspaper “The Guardian” has published a detailed article on the preparations and heightened tensions surrounding today’s football match between Albania and Serbia at the “Arena Kombëtare” in Tirana.

The article specifically recalls the infamous 2014 incident in Belgrade, where a drone flying a “Greater Albania” flag over the pitch triggered a major diplomatic crisis and severe tensions between the two nations.

In preparation for tonight’s match, Albanian authorities have implemented extraordinary security measures, including the deployment of over 2,000 police officers, special forces, and anti-drone equipment. Additionally, visiting Serbian fans will not be permitted inside the stadium.

“The Guardian” highlights that this particular match comes at a sensitive time, given the long history of tensions between the two countries and the notable fact that Albania and Serbia are set to co-host the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2027.
