Tirana, June 2 – In response to the 2022 collapse of its digital infrastructure and recurring waves of cyberattacks, Albania has intensified efforts to bolster its digital security, Rks News reports.

Floreta Faber, a key figure in Albania’s cybersecurity leadership, emphasized that although Iran remains a significant source of attacks, the threat has now broadened to include a wider array of state actors.
“There has been a major shift in how we respond. Iran is no longer our only digital adversary,” Faber stated.

Over the past year, Albania recorded more than two million attempted cyberattacks targeting sectors such as energy, finance, and insurance. Hackers deployed malicious software to infiltrate systems used by citizens, businesses, and government institutions.

In response, the National Cybersecurity Authority has drafted the National Cybersecurity Strategy 2025–2030, which is currently open for public consultation. The strategy places strong emphasis on protecting critical infrastructure and raising public awareness and cyber literacy.

“We must work on educating and informing the entire Albanian society,” said the Authority’s Deputy Director.

The corresponding Action Plan outlines an investment of over 6.7 billion ALL to enhance Albania’s digital infrastructure and cybersecurity capabilities.
