An Israeli journalist posted on X claiming that the Trump administration is in talks with Albania to accept around 100,000 residents from Gaza.
Prime Minister Edi Rama quickly responded to the Israeli journalist, replying on X with a post saying he hadn’t heard such a false claim in a long time.
Rama accompanied his response with a photo featuring a red cross over the journalist’s post, marked “Fake News.”
The Prime Minister wrote that Albania cannot take on such a responsibility.
Full post from Rama:
“I haven’t heard something this false in a long time—and there have been many fake news stories lately! This is absolutely not true.
I have full respect and solidarity with the people of Gaza, who have suffered greatly due to the violent regime of Hamas and have endured a terrible war after the tragedies of October 7th.
But let me be clear: Albania has not been asked by anyone to intervene, nor can we take on such a responsibility.
We are proud of our strong friendships with Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and, of course, with the Palestinian people, whose state Albania recognized many years ago.
However, Albania is not located in the Middle East, and as a country in the heart of Europe, we cannot do more than any other European country on this issue.
That said, we express our wish and pray that the Palestinian people have the opportunity to live in their own state, as free people under a democratic system, and that Hamas will never again be able to harm Israel—or, above all, the Palestinians themselves.”
