The Albanians for America (AFA) organization, along with several other Albanian-American community groups, has sent an open letter to U.S. President Donald J. Trump, hailing him as the “peacemaker of the century” and urging him to strongly back the mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia as the only viable path to lasting peace in the Western Balkans.
In the letter, signed by AFA and its partner organizations, the groups express full support for immediate implementation of mutual recognition, calling it the most effective and pragmatic way forward.
“Mutual recognition is not merely a diplomatic formality — it is the most effective and pragmatic path ahead. Prolonging the status quo is destabilizing and risks both regional security and U.S. interests,” the letter states.
The signatories call on President Trump to:
- Publicly reaffirm U.S. support for Kosovo–Serbia mutual recognition as the foundation for sustainable peace;
- Encourage both countries to finalize recognition and commit to cooperation based on normalized relations;
- Support robust mechanisms for the full and timely implementation of existing agreements.
The letter concludes with a message of strong backing for Trump, emphasizing that the Albanian-American community stands ready to support any initiative that will deliver a fair and lasting resolution to the Kosovo question.
“Thank you for your continued commitment to peace through strength and for your leadership on this important issue,” the letter ends.
