The Albanian government has approved a new decision, proposed by the Ministry of Defense, allowing reservist military personnel to return to active service. The move is aimed at strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and filling gaps in the Armed Forces with qualified and experienced personnel.

According to the decision passed by the Council of Ministers, former military personnel—including officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, and naval personnel—will be eligible to rejoin active duty when their specialties or experience are deemed necessary by military structures.

The Ministry of Defense will issue calls for applications through its official website, and candidates must apply online via the e-Albania portal.

After submitting their documents, applicants will undergo assessment by designated commissions and a security clearance check.

Those selected will be reinstated as active military personnel, assigned to appropriate roles, and retain the rank they held when they entered reserve status. However, they will not be eligible for rank promotion during the contract period.

In cases of partial or general mobilization, the decision also allows the reinstatement of reservists without an application, via direct notification from military authorities.

This initiative is intended to boost operational readiness of the Albanian Armed Forces, align with NATO practices, and provide a meaningful opportunity for veterans to serve their country again.
