The Parliament of Albania ratified on Thursday the cooperation and long-term support agreement signed with Ukraine, which was initially reached this January during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, stated that the agreement aims for Albania, within its capacities, to provide political, military, technical, defense, and humanitarian support to Ukraine — as part of its bilateral and international commitments.
“Albania has clearly shown that it stands on the side of freedom and international law,” said Minister Hasani.
During the parliamentary session, Hasani emphasized that since the beginning of Russia’s unprovoked aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, Albania has firmly supported the rule of law, international justice, and the Ukrainian people.
“As a reliable NATO member, we take on the necessary responsibilities to defend the international order that ensures peace and freedom for all,” he added.
Through this agreement, Albania commits to cooperation with Ukraine in four key areas:
Security and defense
Accountability and international justice
Humanitarian aid and reconstruction
Response in case of escalation — ensuring readiness and coordination under all possible scenarios.
Albania has previously demonstrated its support for Ukraine, notably by hosting the “Ukraine – Southeast Europe” summit in Tirana in February last year.
At the conclusion of the summit, participating countries signed a 12-point declaration condemning Russia’s military aggression as the greatest threat to European security, a violation of international law, including the UN Charter, and a crime against the Ukrainian people.
