Albania is calling on Bulgaria to join a growing trilateral alliance with Croatia and Kosovo, underlining that the initiative aligns with NATO’s values and is not directed against any particular country.
In an interview with Bulgarian news agency BGNES, Speaker of the Albanian Parliament Elisa Spiropali warned about the implications of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s initiative of a so-called “Serbian World”:
“Any step that looks backward and draws from the rhetoric of the past is troubling—not only for Kosovo but also for Albania,” said Spiropali.
She emphasized that progress in Serbia-Kosovo bilateral talks is essential, particularly on mutual recognition, to preserve peace and ensure lasting stability across the Balkans.
“It is in our collective interest that Kosovo moves forward, maintains peace in the region, and secures broader stability,” Spiropali added.
Support for Kosovo’s NATO Membership
Spiropali affirmed Albania’s strong commitment to helping Kosovo gain NATO membership and accelerate its integration into international institutions.
Addressing the newly-formed trilateral alliance between Albania, Croatia, and Kosovo, she stressed that regional cooperation frameworks are in line with NATO’s charter, noting:
“This isn’t against anyone—it’s for something: for peace, for stability, for shared values.”
She also clarified that the alliance is open and not exclusively three-party:
“We invite Bulgaria and any other country sharing our values and strategic outlook to join us.”
