Albanian President Bajram Begaj commemorated the 27th anniversary of the Reçak Massacre, carried out by Serbian forces, emphasizing that the tragedy cannot be forgotten and that the call for justice remains alive.

In his statement, Begaj highlighted the role of Ambassador William Walker, whose report 27 years ago brought global attention to the genocide occurring in Kosovo, ultimately leading to the Rambouillet Conference, NATO intervention, and the freedom and statehood of Kosovo.

Today we remember the Reçak Massacre and honor its martyrs. Its denunciation 27 years ago by Ambassador Walker alerted the international community to the genocide in Kosovo. That awareness led to the Rambouillet Conference, NATO intervention, the freedom and state of Kosovo, and the peace we enjoy today together. This massacre cannot be forgotten! The call for justice cannot be silenced! Honor to the martyrs! Gratitude to our strategic ally, the United States!” Begaj wrote.

The commemoration comes as Kosovo and the region continue to reflect on the atrocities of the 1990s and the enduring importance of justice and historical accountability.
