With less than two hours remaining before the start of an opposition-led protest outside the Prime Minister’s Office, Albanian authorities have begun deploying a heavy police cordon around the government building.
The Albanian State Police have mobilized approximately 1,350 officers to manage the protest, including public order units, Special Forces (FNSH), and the “Eagles” rapid intervention units, according to official sources.
Heightened Security Measures
All police officers assigned to the operation will be equipped with gas masks, while five water cannon vehicles have also been positioned nearby to respond to potential incidents or unrest.
The visible security presence has effectively turned the Prime Minister’s Office into a fortified zone, reflecting authorities’ concerns over possible disturbances.
Concerns Over Possible Unrest
Authorities anticipate possible tensions and disturbances, a concern reinforced by a warning issued earlier today by the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, which advised American citizens to avoid the protest area and exercise caution.
The opposition protest is expected to draw large crowds and has heightened political tensions in the Albanian capital.
