The Speaker of the Kuvendi i Kosovës, Albulena Haxhiu, announced during a press conference that so far she has received only one formal nomination for President that of Glauk Konjufca.

Haxhiu stated that without at least two proposed candidates, she cannot convene the parliamentary session for the election of the President.

“Respecting constitutional deadlines is essential. So far, I have received only one candidacy for President, signed by 30 deputies. According to the official documentation, part of the LVV deputies and the multi-ethnic group have nominated Mr. Glauk Konjufca. Based on the Constitution and constitutional interpretation, the procedure requires that at least two valid candidates be part of the process. Voting cannot begin without fulfilling this requirement,” she said.

“If we do not have two candidates with 30 signatures each, I cannot call the session for the election of the President,” Haxhiu added.

The development adds further uncertainty to the presidential election process, as the constitutional deadline approaches.
