Acting Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, stated that two of the suspects in the triple murder case in Gjilan, Mefail and Edonis Shkodra, “were held in pre-trial detention for only a few months, from June 21, 2024, until October 8, 2024, with the detention interrupted by the Basic Court in Prishtina.”
She added that “this very short period of pre-trial detention for the crimes they are suspected of committing indicates a serious problem in the handling of cases by justice institutions.”
Haxhiu further noted that “such a short detention period and the interruption of pre-trial detention can lead to tragic consequences, as we witnessed today with the triple murder.”
“The justice system must demonstrate maximum responsibility to protect the lives and safety of citizens,” she emphasized.
