Aleksandër Lumezi has rejected the proposal for his appointment to the position of Deputy State Prosecutor.
In an email sent to the Acting State Prosecutor, Agron Qalaj, Lumezi explained that due to his current engagements as a prosecutor at the Office of the State Prosecutor and as a member of the Commission for the Evaluation of Prosecutors’ Performance, he is unable to simultaneously perform the duties of Deputy State Prosecutor.
In the email obtained by “Betimi për Drejtësi”, Lumezi expresses regret over rejecting Qalaj’s proposal, while nevertheless appreciating the trust shown.
“After a careful review of the responsibilities and commitments required by this position, I have concluded that at this moment I am not in a position to accept this duty, due to my professional engagements as a prosecutor at the Office of the State Prosecutor and within the Commission for the Evaluation of Prosecutors’ Performance at all levels. For these reasons, with regret, I have decided to decline this proposal,” Lumezi wrote.
Previously, on 26 December 2025, “Betimi për Drejtësi” reported that the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC) had scheduled its next meeting for today, 29 December 2025, with one of the agenda items being the selection of the Deputy State Prosecutor.
According to the letter obtained by “Betimi për Drejtësi”, Acting State Prosecutor Agron Qalaj had proposed Aleksandër Lumezi for this position.
Based on the KPC meeting agenda secured by “Betimi për Drejtësi”, item seven reads: “Proposal of the Acting State Prosecutor for the appointment of the Deputy State Prosecutor of this office.”
Meanwhile, in a letter addressed to the KPC on 24 December, Qalaj formally proposed Lumezi for the role.
“…with the aim of ensuring institutional continuity, the full exercise of competencies, and the fulfillment of all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the applicable legislation, I propose the appointment of the prosecutor of the Office of the State Prosecutor, Mr. Aleksandër Lumezi, to the position of Deputy State Prosecutor,” the letter states.
It is recalled that Agron Qalaj was appointed Acting State Prosecutor by the KPC at its meeting on 22 December, following the approval of Besim Kelmendi’s resignation from the position.
