The Italian Embassy in Pristina hosted a reception this evening for high-level figures in Kosovo, on the occasion of Italy’s National Day.
Italy’s new ambassador, Maurizio Antonini, addressed the attendees by stating that the Italian Republic Day is a symbol of national unity and democracy.
He emphasized that Italy supports Kosovo’s path toward European integration into the European Union, highlighting the importance of EU enlargement in the Balkans as a key strategy for the political stability and security of the entire continent.
“For the past 25 years, Italy has remained consistently committed to the principles of stability, development, and democracy in Kosovo, being one of the first countries to recognize the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state. Our ongoing commitment has been embodied through the KFOR mission, where our military personnel have played a vital role. The Italian contingent is the largest within KFOR. It is a priceless resource that has supported Kosovo in overcoming many challenges over the years and continues to do so with courage,” he stated.
Antonini added that Italy remains dedicated to continuing its support for Kosovo’s integration into Euro-Atlantic structures and other international mechanisms.
“It is commendable how Kosovo has embraced the core values and principles of the European Union, as demonstrated, among other things, by its full alignment with the EU’s sanctions policy against Russia. We hope that Kosovo will continue on this path of progressive integration into the European Union, without hesitation or doubt, as highlighted during the recent visit to Kosovo organized by the High Representative, Kaja Kallas,” Antonini further stated.
