The Emergency Management Agency (AME) has issued a statement following today’s earthquake that struck Kosovo.
In an official announcement, AME confirmed that so far there are no reports of serious damage or injured persons.
The 4.8-magnitude earthquake, according to AME, was felt strongly and, due to its intensity, had the potential to endanger citizens and cause minor material damage.
“Responsible institutions are fully on alert and are continuously monitoring the situation,” AME stated.

Dear citizens,
Based on data from the Seismological Network, the Kosovo Geological Service, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismic Center, and numerical analysis of the seismic event, we inform you that:
- On 10 February 2026, at 22:05 local time, the territory of Kosovo, specifically the southeastern area (Prizren–Shtërpcë), was struck by an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 on the Richter scale, with an intensity of VI on the Mercalli scale.
- Hypocenter depth: 5 km
- Epicenter: 23 km east of Prizren
- Geographical coordinates: 42.144; 20.985
The earthquake was strongly felt by citizens in various parts of Kosovo. Due to its strength, this seismic activity had the potential to endanger citizens and cause minor material damage. This event also confirms that the Prizren area is an active seismic zone, as indicated in the Seismic Hazard Map of Kosovo.
So far, there are no official reports of serious damage or injured persons. Responsible institutions are fully on alert and continue to monitor the situation.
Guidelines for Citizens:
- Stay calm and rely only on official information sources.
- In case of aftershocks, stay away from windows and objects that may fall and cause injury.
- Indoors, take shelter under a sturdy table or near a load-bearing wall or concrete columns.
- After the shaking stops, move calmly to open spaces.
- Do not use elevators and avoid unnecessary use of vehicles.
- Carefully inspect homes for any damage and assist those in need.
