The Pentagon has announced that it will send an additional military aid package of $425 million (approximately 392 million euros) to Ukraine, as Kyiv prepares to face reinforced Russian forces bolstered by more than 10,000 North Korean soldiers.
The new aid package, announced by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, includes weapons that will be drawn from existing U.S. stockpiles, such as interceptors for air defense systems, ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, as well as 155 mm artillery, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons.
This aid package brings the total military assistance provided by the U.S. to Ukraine since the onset of the Russian war in February 2022 to $60.4 billion (about 55 billion euros).
In eastern Ukraine, Russian rocket attacks continue, including an assault on Kharkiv with a 500-kilogram bomb that struck an apartment complex, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuring several others.
Russia has increasingly begun using powerful bombs to target Ukrainian positions along the 1,000-kilometer contact line and to attack cities located tens of kilometers from the front.
Ukraine is also facing new uncertainties as waves of North Korean soldiers sent to Russia have arrived near the Ukrainian border and are preparing to join the fight against Ukrainian forces in the coming days.
