The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo (AEAK) hosted a forum titled “Removing Barriers: Economic Impact of 0% Tariffs on American Goods”, emphasizing that the Kosovo government’s decision to eliminate customs tariffs on U.S.-origin products will strengthen economic partnership and encourage American investment in the country.

Key Highlights from the Forum:

Arian Zeka, Executive Director of AEAK, stated that the tariff removal will have a significant impact on trade and investment. “From August onward, all products originating from the U.S. entering Kosovo will be exempt from customs duties. This decision paves the way for expanded trade between Kosovo and the United States and will boost foreign investment, particularly from U.S. businesses,” Zeka said.

Anu Prattipati, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Pristina, called the move a major step in strengthening bilateral relations. “Kosovo’s decision to eliminate tariffs on American products reflects our shared vision for more trade, investment, and prosperity. This action deepens and strengthens the framework for trade and investment between the two countries. By removing these tariffs, Kosovo has improved access to high-quality American goods, making them more available for its citizens, while creating new opportunities for both American and Kosovar businesses. This is a win-win decision that will boost bilateral trade and create opportunities for economic growth,” Prattipati said.

Hekuran Murati, Acting Minister of Finance, Labor, and Transfers, emphasized that the 0% tariff policy strengthens Kosovo’s strategic partnership with the U.S. and creates favorable conditions for new investments. “This decision opens the path for increased economic cooperation and investment, not only from U.S. investors but also from other countries, positioning Kosovo as an attractive investment destination. It also aims to increase trade volume, technological exchanges, and investment opportunities for U.S. companies,” Murati said.

Agron Llugaliu, Director General of Kosovo Customs, confirmed that the implementation of 0% tariffs has already begun. “Customs is executing the government’s decision to remove tariffs on U.S.-origin products. The measure does not limit any type of goods or industries, ensuring full flexibility and cooperation with businesses. All required official documentation will be accepted under this policy, supporting a streamlined trade process,” Llugaliu said.

This move by Kosovo marks a major step in strengthening U.S.-Kosovo economic ties, facilitating trade, investment, and growth opportunities for businesses on both sides.
