The American envoy for the Western Balkans, Alexander “Sasha” Kasanof, will visit Kosovo this week, as stated by a spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy.
Kasanof will hold regular consultations with government officials, opposition leaders, civil society representatives, and businesses, according to REL.
This will be his first visit to Kosovo, although he has previously met with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, and the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, on the sidelines of summits held in Prague and New York.
This role was previously held by Gabriel Escobar, whose term ended in May.
Since July 19, Kasanof has also served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Media and Public Diplomacy in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. State Department.
According to his biography published on the U.S. State Department website, he has served as an executive assistant to former Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, and during the term of Acting Under Secretary for Political Affairs, John Bass.
Kasanof has served in Ireland, Turkmenistan, Chile, and Ukraine.
He received an award for his work as a political advisor at the Embassy in Kyiv during the Maidan Revolution and the subsequent Russian invasion of Ukraine.
