BELGRADE, Serbia – July 3, 2025 – An American student was reportedly brutally assaulted by Serbian gendarmerie during last night’s protests in Belgrade. The student fell to the ground while trying to evade the gendarmerie and was subsequently kicked and beaten with batons on her back.

The Instagram profile “Mashinci u blokadi” published photos of the student, describing her brutal attack by police during the operation in front of the technical faculties in Belgrade, as reported by Telegrafi.

The post, titled “To stand by the throat of tyranny: This is the most sacred human duty,” identifies the student as a U.S. citizen.

Eyewitness Account of the Assault

The account detailed the assault: “Our colleague was physically attacked today by members of the gendarmerie at the corner of Boulevard Aleksandar! While fleeing from the gendarmerie, at the blockade near ETF, the colleague fell to the ground. The gendarmes then began to kick her and hit her on the back with a baton while she was lying down. Then they pushed her with shields, and two of them started hitting her on the head with a baton. However, one gendarme told them to stop. So they threw her aside and continued to kick her until she got out of the crowd and sat on the sidewalk.”

Injuries Reported, US Embassy Notified

The students stated, “Our colleague’s injuries were examined at the Emergency Center, and she also reported the attack to the Embassy of the United States of America, as she is their citizen. She is currently recovering from her injuries and stress.”

The statement concluded with a strong condemnation: “This could have been any of us. Violence against students is becoming more frequent and severe. Police brutality must stop.”
