Kosovo will be on the agenda of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which will meet from today in Sofia, Bulgaria.

For the advancement of the Assembly of Kosovo from an observer to an associate member of this organization, Serbia has expressed its opposition.

The Speaker of the Assembly of Serbia, Ana Bërnabić, has sent a letter of complaint to the heads of all member delegations in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

As Tanjug writes in Bërnabiqi’s letter, it is written that the advancement of the Assembly of Kosovo in the NATO Assembly from an observer member to an associate member of this organization “would be a reward for the violence against the Serbs”.

“Serbia expresses its strong opposition to the possibility of the Kosovo Assembly being granted the status of an associate member, while we generally welcome the efforts of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly to improve dialogue, strengthen partnerships and increase the number of partners it cooperates with. However, I would like to remind you that this is a particularly sensitive issue that requires very careful consideration, given the potential negative political and security consequences more broadly,” the letter reads.

In the letter, among other things, Bërnabiq complained that Serbs in Kosovo are being discriminated against.

According to her, the conditions in Kosovo have resulted in the departure of more than 15 percent of the Serbian population.
