The National Security Agency (ANB) of Montenegro is currently investigating reports that an assassination attempt may be planned against President Jakov Milatović. According to sources familiar with the situation, the information was obtained through foreign intelligence and has been communicated to the President’s office and the Police Administration (UP) for further verification.
While the Police Administration has confirmed the investigation into the potential threat, they emphasized that President Milatović is not currently in danger, and additional security measures are already in place. The exact details of the potential plot remain unclear, and authorities are keeping the matter confidential.
The information was reportedly provided by two connected sources from different countries in the Balkans. These sources claim that the mastermind behind the plot is a retired high-ranking officer from a former regional army, while the immediate executor of the plan would be an individual from Montenegro.
Although the information has not been fully verified, it is being taken seriously, and investigations are ongoing. The motivation behind the alleged plot remains unclear, but sources suggest it may be connected to destabilizing the country.
This development follows a similar warning in July 2023 when former President Milo Đukanović also received intelligence suggesting a planned assassination attempt against him. However, that information was not immediately confirmed by Montenegrin authorities after conducting investigations with international intelligence agencies.
