Canada has secured a new air transport agreement with the Republic of Albania, the country’s Minister of Transport, Steven MacKinnon, announced in a media statement on Monday.
The agreement allows several airlines to operate regular flights between Canada and Albania – up to 14 passenger flights per week for each country, Ottawa reported via PaxNews.
Under the agreement, up to 10 weekly cargo flights per country are also permitted, with access to any point within the territories of both states.
Airlines may begin providing services under this agreement immediately.
“This new air transport agreement with the Republic of Albania, one of the fastest-growing economies in Europe, will open new economic opportunities for both our countries. It will also strengthen people-to-people ties and enhance Canada’s global connectivity,” Minister MacKinnon stated.
Canadian exports of goods to Albania reached a value of $85 million in 2024. Albania is also the primary destination for Canadian goods exports among Balkan countries outside the European Union.
The Canadian government anticipates that the air transport agreement will facilitate Albania’s first direct transatlantic flight.
