Iranian media have confirmed the death of another nuclear scientist amid the latest wave of Israeli attacks in the country.
Soleiman Soleimani, affiliated with the Iran University of Science and Technology, was reportedly killed, according to a university statement cited by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency.
Soleimani, a graduate of the university’s chemical engineering department, was described as a prominent nuclear scientist. He was killed “as a result of a series of criminal actions by the Zionist regime targeting the scientific elite of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Tasnim reported, as cited by CNN.
Israel claims it has killed several high-profile Iranian nuclear scientists during its 12-day campaign of strikes, which targeted Iran’s nuclear weapons program, military command structures, and missile bases.
According to a Monday report by the Council on Foreign Relations, at least 10 Iranian scientists had been killed in the strikes up to that point, including:
Fereydoon Abbasi, former head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization
Amir Hossein Feqhi, former deputy head of the same agency
On Tuesday, Iranian state media also confirmed the death of Mohammad Reza Seddighi Saber, a figure involved in Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Saber had previously been sanctioned by the U.S. State Department and the Treasury earlier this year.
