Kosovo’s Court of Appeals has affirmed a lower court’s decision, keeping 10 individuals under house arrest in a major driving license fraud case. The suspects, including driving school owners and officials, were arrested last month on charges ranging from bribery and abuse of official position to influence peddling and document forgery.
The Appeals Court rejected the prosecution’s request for detention, citing flight risk and potential obstruction of justice if they were released. It emphasized the seriousness of the corruption charges, where suspects allegedly profited from their official duties by facilitating fraudulent licenses in exchange for money.
The case involves alleged schemes across Pristina, Gjilan, and Gjakova, revealing a widespread network of alleged irregularities in obtaining driving permits. Investigations are ongoing.
