Apple, the American tech giant, is offering rare discounts of up to $68 on its new iPhone models in China as it strives to maintain its market share amid intensifying competition from local rivals like Huawei, reports RFE.

The four-day promotion, running from January 4 to 7, applies to select iPhone models, with discounts varying depending on the payment method.

These discounts come at a time when China’s economy is slowing down, and consumer spending has dropped to its lowest point in five months. Apple has also been impacted by this economic downturn, reporting a decline in sales in China, the world’s largest smartphone market.

Huawei, China’s homegrown tech giant, has grown rapidly and emerged as a formidable competitor since August 2023, when it focused on chip production. Huawei’s advancements have also contributed to price reductions across many tech products, including smartphones.

The West is increasingly concerned about how Huawei operates, with growing fears that the company may share customer data with the Chinese government.
