The Council of the League of Arab States, at the level of permanent representatives, today urged the international community to take immediate measures to halt Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, recognize the unfolding catastrophe and famine, and lift the imposed blockade.

Demands for Humanitarian Aid and Accountability

In a statement released after an urgent meeting convened at the request of the State of Palestine, the Council stressed the imperative of ensuring the urgent and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The Council also called on Algeria and Somalia, the two Arab non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, to continue their efforts to convene an emergency Security Council session. The aim is to adopt a binding resolution demanding Israel lift the blockade and permit the entry of humanitarian aid.

The Council expressed its unequivocal rejection of the so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” and similar mechanisms, deeming them devoid of both legal and ethical legitimacy. It stated that such mechanisms serve as humanitarian cover for aggressive policies that transform aid into tools of repression, starvation, and deadly traps. The Council held the sponsoring parties fully accountable under international law for crimes committed through these mechanisms.

Solidarity and Condemnation of Israeli Actions

The body reaffirmed its solidarity with UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese and other officials of international organizations who face increasing pressure and harassment for their support of the Palestinian people and their efforts to expose alleged genocide crimes committed by Israel.

The Council welcomed the joint statement issued on July 21, 2025, by 28 countries, including 21 European Union member states, as well as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Japan, Norway, and New Zealand, concerning the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory. This statement included a clear demand for an end to Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, an urgent halt to the policy of extermination, an immediate end to the systematic starvation policy, ensuring accountability for crimes committed against the Palestinian people, and imposing sanctions on the Israeli occupation, its leaders, and terrorist settlers.

The Council condemned the continuous punitive economic and financial measures taken by Israel, as an occupying power, against the State of Palestine, including the withholding of Palestinian tax revenues in a clear attempt to undermine the functioning of the Palestinian government and cripple its ability to meet its obligations to the Palestinian people.

The Council further emphasized the urgent need for the immediate recognition of the State of Palestine as a legal and moral step contributing to the protection of the rights of the Palestinian people.
