The U.S. Secret Service announced Sunday morning that an armed man was shot and killed after breaching the security perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, the Florida residence of Donald Trump.

Although the U.S. president often spends weekends at the resort, he was at the White House in Washington at the time of the incident.

The identity of the individual has not been released, but authorities believe he was a man in his early 20s.

According to the Secret Service, the suspect was spotted near the north gate of the Mar-a-Lago property carrying a rifle and a gasoline canister.

He was shot by Secret Service agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the agency said.

A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed that evidence is being collected as part of the investigation. Authorities have asked nearby residents to review external security camera footage for any relevant information.

The incident is currently under active investigation.
