Former Defense Minister Armend Mehaj has commemorated Skënder Çeku on the 26th anniversary of his death.
In a Facebook post, Mehaj stated that while Çeku was a dedicated soldier of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), he was also an intellectual and tireless activist who dedicated his life to the national cause from a young age.
“Today, on the 26th anniversary of the heroic fall of General Skënder Çeku, we remember with respect and pride one of the brightest figures in our struggle for freedom and independence. Skënder Çeku, the son of Qyshk in Peja, was not only a determined soldier of the KLA but also an intellectual and tireless activist who, from his youth, dedicated his life to the great national cause,” wrote the former minister.
“As a brave man, a patriot, and a general with a big heart, Skënder Çeku gave everything for the freedom of Kosovo. He fell heroically in the village of Loxha in Peja, but his name and work will live forever in the hearts of every Albanian. General Skënderi was the Strategy, the heart, and the engine of the KLA, a strong pillar without which the KLA would have neither foundation nor logistics. Today, we bow with honor before his memory and his great work. Eternal glory to our national hero, General Skënder Çeku – Skenda. Glory to all the martyrs of the nation.”
