A Croatian Air Force pilot, J.I. (54), and his partner, A.M. (46), have been placed in pre-trial detention as they are being investigated for espionage by the State Prosecutor’s Office in Split.

According to investigators, the pilot is suspected of providing his partner with confidential information regarding KFOR movements in Kosovo, which she allegedly transmitted using encrypted applications. A.M. reportedly claimed to work for the German intelligence service, BND.

The couple met in Kosovo in 2016, when J.I. was part of the Croatian contingent in KFOR, and A.M. was working for EULEX. Their arrest took place on the island of Vis, Croatia.

The charges are based on messages discovered on their phones, including conversations concerning attacks on KFOR and contacts with individuals suspected of terrorism.
