The Institute for Security and Resilience – PREVENT has praised the “professional, coordinated, and decisive action” of Kosovo’s security and justice institutions following the arrest of police official Bojan Jevtić. Jevtić is suspected of involvement in espionage activities and leaking sensitive information in cooperation with Serbian intelligence.

A Pattern of Espionage

PREVENT highlights that Jevtić, who served as deputy commander and head of operations in a police unit in northern Kosovo, was arrested at the “Dheu i Bardhë” border crossing after a long period of surveillance and careful investigation. The institute stressed that “this arrest is not an isolated case, but the result of dedicated institutional work, demonstrating the maturity and professionalism of the state of Kosovo in defending the constitutional order and national security.”

PREVENT specifically acknowledged the leading role of the State Prosecution, the precise investigations by the Kosovo Police Inspectorate (IPK), the serious commitment of the Kosovo Police, and the crucial contribution of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI) in identifying and analyzing sensitive intelligence information. They emphasized that “close inter-institutional cooperation in this case shows a functional example of protecting the sovereignty and stability of the Republic of Kosovo.”

The announcement further clarified that this is indeed not an isolated incident. “In the last year alone, Kosovo’s security authorities have arrested six individuals suspected of cooperating with Serbian intelligence services. All these individuals are suspected of acting against the interests of the Republic of Kosovo, attempting to destabilize institutions and undermine national security.”

Call for Continued Vigilance and Integrity

The PREVENT Institute calls for investigations to continue in an independent, impartial, and fully integrated manner, based on the principles of the rule of law, democratic standards, and respect for human rights. They assert that only through such an approach can citizens’ trust in state institutions be strengthened, ensuring that anyone who violates security and constitutional order faces justice.

“Such cases should also serve as a call for more rigorous verification of the integrity of public officials, strengthening counter-intelligence capacities, and increasing inter-institutional cooperation – especially in sensitive state sectors – to successfully confront hybrid challenges and threats that could jeopardize peace and stability in the country,” the announcement concluded.
