In Ćacilend, the so-called “oasis of freedom” praised by President Aleksandar Vučić, citizens with criminal records have been present for months in the protest tents. KRIK’s database of criminals spotted in Ćacilend has recently added Milan Ostojić “Sandokan”, who was convicted of ordering the murder of a rival gang member and led the “Šabac group,” accused of multiple murders and heroin trafficking. He is the 17th person recorded in the database of known offenders in this area.

Other high-profile figures previously identified include Jelenko Pjevac, who threatened journalists and was recently arrested after evading authorities. Observers have noted delays in police action and questioned law enforcement priorities.

KRIK reports suggest that those with criminal pasts often enjoyed privileged access and protection inside Ćacilend, sometimes appearing with politicians, including SNS MP Uglješa Mrdić, during tent protests in front of the National Assembly.

President Vučić has publicly praised the Ćacilend participants, calling their actions heroic and patriotic, framing their presence as defense of the state against a color revolution. He suggested that in history books, these individuals will be remembered for their courage and dedication.

The article underscores the paradoxical situation: criminals protecting the president while ordinary citizens are excluded, raising questions about legality, morality, and governance. As Ćacilend transforms into a Christmas village, some wonder whether this environment will foster socially constructive activity or merely maintain the status quo.
