European Commission Vice President Josep Borrell stated on Saturday that the assassination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has opened a “new perspective” for a ceasefire in Gaza, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
“Certainly, after the assassination of Yahya Sinwar, a new perspective is open, and we must use it to achieve a ceasefire, to free the remaining hostages, and to seek a political perspective,” Borrell told reporters on the sidelines of a G7 summit, as reported by the BBC.
Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, a key figure behind the October 7 attacks on Israel, was killed by Israeli forces on Wednesday. The Israeli army released drone footage, claiming to show the final moments of Sinwar before his death.
